Modern World History : The Troubled Hawaiian Islands

The Hawaiian Islands have been much wanted for a long period of time in about the 1790's . Stronger nations looked to imperialize any smaller nations available. European powers looked to imperialize in Hawaii. The United States of America was also among them . American business leaders mostly wanted annexation because it meant that they could continue to build profit and gain powers overseas. Hawaii at the time was under the leadership of Queen Liliuokalani, was give the throne in 1891 soon after the death of her brother, King Kalakaua. The leader of the Hawaiian islands , Queen Liliuokalani proposed a new constitution in 1893.
